The following are the second series of centavo coins which were introduced in 1998 and from 2002 - the 50 centavos and R$1 coin. From 23rd December 2003, the withdrawal from circulation of the first series of the R$1 coin began.

Current Brazilian money - R$1 real coin

In addition to the current one real coin, there has been three other special releases of one real coins by the Brazilian Central Bank, to commemorate three separate special occasions. These are as follows:


The first special occasion R$1 release was on 10th December 1998, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.





The second special release of the R$1 Brazilian currency was on 12th September 2002, to mark the 100th birth anniversary of Brazilian ex-president Juscelino Kubitschek.





The third and final release date of R$1 coin was on 23rd September 2005, to mark the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the Brazilian Central Bank..





Current Brasil currency in notes

















To mark the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Portuguese arrival in Brazil, in April 200, an additional polymer R$10 (reais) bank note was released by the Brazilian Central Bank.



This special release Brasil money accounted for approximately half of 10 reais banknotes in circulation at that time and shows the image of Pedro Alvares Cabral, the Portuguese sea captain.
