Although in some areas, restaurants etc., might well have a safe drinking water supply, err on the side of caution and only drink bottled mineral water, which is inexpensive and widely available

  • Be sure to wash thoroughly, all fresh fruit, vegetables and salad only in bottled or purified water. Fresh fruit in restaurants may have been washed with tap water. As an alternative, you might want to peel them, just to be on the safe side

  • Treat all Brazil fast food sold by street vendors and especially those selling on the beaches, with extreme caution. These outlets can carry significant fast food health risks. Only buy from professional looking food stalls and check to see the standard of hygiene before you eat. To avoid fast food health problems, as a rule, don't buy from vendors late in the day, since food might well be as old as the day is long. Numerous illnesses and diseases can be contracted via contaminated food
